AT least nine kilograms of the big shabu catch of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Luzon were intended to be brought to this city, and these were made in a methamphetamine hydrochloride laboratory in San Juan that was raided by authorities on Friday, showed a report in the The Manila Times yesterday.

The Dec. 23 raid in San Juan was the culmination of a four-month “Project Dragon” of the NBI’s Task Force against Illegal Drugs that resulted in what Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre called as the biggest shabu haul so far in the country’s history.

The Manila Times reported that the NBI uncovered a plan by a group of Maranaos to bring some nine kilograms of shabu to Cagayan de Oro. Two suspects were arrested, and some nine kilograms of shabu were seized during the operation in Bacoor, Cavite in Dec. 2.

There was another NBI operation in a Pasay City motel that resulted in the arrest of a couple who allegedly planned to bring some 3.5 kilograms of shabu to Mindanao, according to the same report.

The report added that the NBI found out that the source of the shabu was the raided facility in Little Baguio, San Juan City.

On Tuesday, the NBI filed charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, against six suspects, including three Chinese, in connection with the San Juan raid that resulted in the confiscation of shabu worth some P3 billion.

The three Chinese were identified as Shi Gui Xiong, 44; Che Wen De a.k.a. Jackie Tan, 44; and Wu Li Yong a.k.a. David Go, 44.

Three other suspects charged were Abdullah Jamal, 33; Salim Arafat, 19; and Rasher Jamal, 19.

They were taken to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to undergo inquest proceedings.

The three Chinese would also be charged with violation of Section 8 in relation to Section 26 Article 2 of Republic Act no. 9165 otherwise known as the Dangerous Drugs Act 2002.

The suspects were caught inside the warehouse which they have been occupying for months.

The suspects are currently detained at the NBI headquarters. (with reports from pna)
