Delia Layno, head of Digkalaan National High School, said in a statement that she did not immediately knew that the girls were missing since she was attending a forum that day.

She knew of the incident only after the parents of the girls reported last Thursday that the girls did not return to their homes the previous night.

Layno said she inquired from the school’s security guard on duty and was told that the two girls had asked permission to be allowed to go outside the school as they wanted to buy ballpens and paper, at around 10 am, Wednesday.

A review of the school’s CCTV feed shows the two students crossing the Mandulog River.

Digkilaan, to note, is a hinterland barangay of this city.
