The Yellow Serpents emerged overall champions while Team Mocha and the Green Archers snagged second and third place respectively in the 2019 Cagayan de Oro City Hall Inter-Departmental Sportsfest held last Saturday at the Xavier High School Sports Center.
The awarding ceremony held during yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony and program at the City Hall quadrangle and spearheaded by City Sports Commission overseer Rocky Calingin.
The Yellow Serpents comprised of the City Budget Office, the City Finance Office, City Management Information Systems, City Assessor’s Office, Commission on Audit and City Auditor’s Office, topped the Badminton and Bowling competition for women as well as the chess and Team Chant competition.
They placed second in the Badminton and Bowling competitions for men as well as the Kadang, an outdoor game where players use bamboo stilts with steps to race each other to the finish line.
“Mayor Oscar Moreno said it’s better to hold the sportsfest after work. I proposed to the mayor that it be held on a holiday and June 12 next year falls on a Friday,” he told the participating contingents. (Stephen Capillas for CIO)
