CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno asked this question to City Hall’s health officials, hospital owners, barangay leaders and officials of line health agencies in a stakeholders’ forum on the city’s integration as pilot site for Republic Act No. 11223 or the Universal Health Care Act (UHCA) held at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel last Wednesday afternoon.

Moreno followed up that question with a call to action on all stakeholders in attendance, appealing to them to help City Hall in elevating Cagayan de Oro as a showcase, a ‘model’ in the implementation of the Universal Health Care Act.

“We want this program (Health Care Act) to succeed in Cagayan de Oro….so magtinabangay ta kay importante kini ma edukar ang atong katawhan na moadto sa health center,” Moreno said in reference to the Health Care Act’s goals to refer patients to the appropriate health facility in order to decongest primary and tertiary hospitals like the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and JR Borja City Hospital.

Dr. Ramon Neri, JR Borja City Hospital chief, echoed Mayor Moreno’s call by saying that their long term goal is to establish the city hospital as a ‘model’ for other local government hospitals in implementing the Universal Health Care Act. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
