Gingoog City — Mayor Erick Cañosa has called on the public, not to panic and worry about the 2019 Novel Coronavirus but reminds the residents to be always alerted as he urged for the cooperation of everyone.

In a phone interview Tuesday, Cañosa emphasized that the cooperation of the public is essential in preventing the spread of the virus.

Cañosa said the virus is everybody’s concern and he wants people to report immediately to health authorities of the city if they notice a person with a travel advisory from other country or having symptoms like cough and fever.

Cañosa said he conducted a series of emergency meetings since Sunday among the heads of the City Health Office, Department of Education and other related offices to draft preparedness plans to make sure the people of the city will be safe from the virus.

He also urged the public to voluntarily submit themselves to the nearest health centers and hospitals in town if they experience flu, but only those who have met someone from Wuhan and Hubie in China and other countries suspected to be positive of the virus.

Cañosa said the public should not panic but should be always alert and their cooperation is important.

He also gave instruction to the City Health Office to conduct an information drive to all 79 barangays of the city so that the residents will be aware how to prevent from being infected by the virus.

Cañosa said there is still no cure for the coronavirus but can be avoided by maintaining proper hygiene like regular washing of hands.

Cañosa asked all hospitals in the city to put up isolation rooms.

For her part, Dr. Agnes Centino, assistant city health officer, reminded the public what to do to avoid the possible passing and spread of the virus.
