THE economy in the City of Ozamiz is barely recovering from the long quarantine brought by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), but the Ozamiznons are eager to help fellow Filipinos in typhoon struck areas in Luzon.

The City government of Ozamiz City on Wednesday, through Mayor Sancho Fernando Oaminal donated P750,000 financial aid to the City Government of Tuguegarao to help families of the casualties of flooding and landslides caused by typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.

“Despite the many challenges that we are facing, we remain fortunate, we remain blessed and we remain prepared to help,” Oaminal said.

Oaminal added that Tuguegarao City has been brought down by a wave of successive typhoons.

From Rolly to Ulysses, many suffered losses of life and property. Thus, the city government had the drive to extend help, according to Oaminal.

“The people of Tuguegarao are crying for help,” said Oaminal.

As for the damages, more than 90 percent of their barangays have been greatly affected. Many are displaced, according to the mayor.

Oaminal said Ozamiznons are blessed that they have remained unscathed despite the many calamities that struck the country.

“We only have very minor impacts as compared to the other areas. It is right that we extend a helping hand,” said Oaminal.

In the spirit of Bayanihan, we have done our share and have responded to Tuguegarao’s cry for help, he added.

The local government hopes that the donation could help Tuguegarao City rebuild their lives back to normalcy. He also urged the affected residents to continue to strive on the road to recovery and healing. (Recthie Tolinero/PIA Misamis Occidental/SMRN)
