In a statement it released to the media yesterday, the people’s movement Kaabag ang Kagayan ug Misamis Oriental (Kaabag Kami) said it “manifests the aspirations of the people of Misamis Oriental for change in governance and the sustainability of the programs of the local government of Cagayan de Oro that resulted in inclusive growth and pro-poor.

“The people of Cagayan de Oro have Mayor Moreno and Cong. Klarex to thank for their services spanning around eight years that resulted in the city building-back-better after it was devastated by typhoon Sendong and general neglect of the previous administration,” said Marlo Tabac, Barangay Gusa chairman, adding that Uy taking the helm in the city would ensure continuity of pro-poor programs and even bring more to the city.

“Plus one na daan si Klarex, kay dugangan pa niya og bag-o ang mga proyekto, programa ug serbisyo ni nga nasugdan ni Mayor Oca,” Tabac said.

“The time has come for Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental to have unified governance development goals, and this can only be possible if their unified leadership in the province and the capital city,” he added.

For his part, Metodio Baldivino, barangay chairman of Anakan, Gingoog City, said “the people of the province thirst for good governance and missed the quality of public service of the Capitol when Moreno was governor from 2004 to 2013.”

Baldivino added that the quality health care, classrooms, farm-to-market roads, which the people of Cagayan de Oro are enjoying, resonate with the province.

Bonjit Actub, barangay chairman of Bonbong, Opol town, Misamis Oriental, said: “We are very grateful to Mayor Oca’s showing of openness to serve back Misamis Oriental. The people have very hoped they will once again taste quality public health services, developed public schools, scholarships, farm-to-market roads, housing for the poor and good partnership with the business sector.” (Jigger Jerusalem)
