BEAUTY talents continue to be a blessing and a source of pride for Cagayan de Oro City and the province of Misamis Oriental as they keep on coming for glamour and the crowning glory.

After the success of Cinderella Faye ‘Cindy’ Obeñita as the newly-crowned Miss Intercontinental 2021, another local beauty queen made the rounds, this time, boundary-defying when she made a name for herself in the United States of America.

Ericka Zayas, a 23-year-old five-foot-seven stunner, emerged runner-up in the recent Miss Philippines USA 2021, considered the most prestigious offshore beauty contest for Filipinas, representing Indiana.

Zayas, a former Xavier University High School student, had migrated to the US with her family when she turned 18. She is now a US registered nurse.

During the pageantry when she made it to the Top 5 Finals, Zayas tackled the final question: If you had a remote control for men, what would be your first command?

Here’s Miss Ericka for you.

“The first command there would be equality. That button will constantly remind men that women are their equals, that any human being is his equal in the eyes of God. We cannot deny that there are still many corners in the world where women are treated as second-class citizens, and that is a very sad reality.”

Zayas also became Miss Silka Northern Mindanao in 2016 and Miss CDO 2018 Best in Swimsuit.

“The Zayas genes of beauty queens probably run in our blood. Iyang mommy sab gwapa sexy kaayo. We’re very proud of her US triumph,” said a Cagayan de Oro-based relative Aidee Acaylar, who noted that Ericka’s cousin Katrina Zayas Acaylar from Barangay Balulang was crowned Miss Cagayan de Oro in 2017.
