A total of 30 passengers were hospitalized after the bus they were riding accidentally fell into the ravine in Bukidnon yesterday at 7 pm.

A police report sent to Police Col. Jun Mark Lagare, the province’s police director revealed that the said bus ― owned by Rural Transit Mindanao Incorporated (RTMI) with body number 2821 ― was traveling from Davao City to Cagayan de Oro City.

But upon traversing along Sayre Highway specifically at the descending curve of the Mangima portion located at Barangay Tankulan, Manolo Fortich, its brake malfunctioned.

Bus driver Tommy Magno told police he could not control its speed anymore until it fell into a ravine.

Rescue teams from Manolo Fortich Local Government Unit, and Manolo Fortich Fire Station rushed all the victims to Bukidnon Provincial Hospital Annex in San Miguel, Maramag of the same province for treatment.

The same police report stated there was no fatality in the said incident but all the victims only sustained minor injuries.

All the medical expenses and damaged personal properties of the passengers were shouldered by the management of RTMI.

In connection with the said incident, Lagare ordered Manolo police personnel to strictly implement traffic laws and conduct random checkpoints for the safety of the motorists.

He also stated to practice a responsible attitude and take extra care precautions while driving and cooperate with the authorities in terms of road safety rules and policies.
