“We call on the authorities and state security forces to bring the perpetrators to justice,” read part of the statement.

On October 3, Lapid was ambushed and shot dead near his home in Las Piñas City, according to police statements.

“This is a brutal murder of yet another journalist known for fulfilling his duty to speak the truth and hold power to account,” it said.

In the face of these continuing attacks against journalists, we stand together with media, civil society organizations, academia, and other sectors to protect the safety of media workers and defend our democratic rights to freedom of expression and press freedom.
