EVEN with his spate of ring success, Filipino boxing hero Carlo Paalam remains steadfast as he encouraged the gloves-loving youth to stick to school and get the right education.

“Always strive hard to get into school and finish your study. Also, stay away from destructive vices,” said the Cagayan de Oro-based Paalam in Visayan, right after clinching another boxing gold in the recent 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.

The 24-year-old native of Talakag, Bukidnon outclassed Indonesia’s Aldoms Suguro for the gold medal in the 54kg category by unanimous decision.

He also won the gold in the bantamweight final during the 2019 edition of the SEA Games in Manila en route to qualifying in the Tokyo Summer Olympics where he finished with a silver.

Salamat sa imong inspirasyon kanamo, ilabina sa mga kabatan-onan,” added Uy, who vowed to continue in promoting grassroots sports development, both for community-based and school-based athletes.

“The inspiration Carlo Paalam gives to our people, especially the youth is very important at this time that we grapple with mental health issues like depression among the youth,” Uy said.
