A 28-year-old motorcycle driver and one of his two back riders were killed after their ridden unit was bumped by a cargo van truck yesterday at 10:00 am.

The incident took place at Catarata Street, Purok 4, Poblacion, Valencia City of the said province.

Bukidnon Police Provincial Director Officer-in-charge Restituto Lacano, Jr. identified the fatalities as James Capuyan, single; and Harlene Bongcayo, 49, married, both residents of Barangay Lower Lilingayon, Valencia City of the said province.

While another back rider, a certain Janice Sumonda, 30, single, and a resident of Barangay Tikala, Manolo Fortich of the same province, was hospitalized for sustaining injuries in the different parts of her body.

In a police report, it was learned that the incident happened when a cargo truck’s brake malfunctioned.

The said vehicle with plate number AAT-4947 driven by Loper Mabaga, 46 of Barangay San Jose, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, then bumped two other motorelas before it finally hit Capuyan’s motorcycle, a Yamaha Sniper which at that time was parked along the said road.

Due to the impact, the said motorcyle was dragged 225 meters away.

In an initial investigation, the truck driver failed to present pertinent documents such as an Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration to the authorities.

Mabaga is now under the custody of Valencia police for proper disposition.
