THE city is alive, and it’s one huge fanfare. It’s infectious. It’s a fever. It’s Fiesta fever! And what’s a fiesta without food fare? You meet with friends, relatives, and colleagues, and food will always be at the center or side of all these get-togethers.

To counter the overwhelming activities of your palate, get up and exercise.

In your 20s, you can eat what you want and not worry about gaining a pound. It’s also that time of your life when you’re already earning your keep. You can buy and eat to your heart’s content. Good thing metabolism is still fast.

Yet, you still exercise. Why? Because it’s good to wear those crop tops, and it would be good content for your IG account, right?

In your 30s, you exercise for fun, and because you now have a little extra from your income, you enroll at a fancy gym. And if you’re in sales, it’s a good trade network. Metabolism is also starting to slow down at this time for most people.

In your mid-30s to early 40s, you exercise because you want to eat what you like. And what you want is the junk kind of food. You love to eat sugary food. In your early years, you don’t even like sweet treats. Suddenly, you have a sweet tooth.

In your mid-40s and up, you exercise because your doctor advised it. And more importantly, to counter work-related stress that’s already taking its toll on you. It’s also the time when you crave something that is already doctor-forbidden.

And most of us want to wear those clothes that are a size or two smaller than our current. We want to fit into those clothes again. Why buy new ones when your clothes never really went out of style? It’s just the size that left the building and went out of style.

When you work at your desk all day long, you need to take a breather. Stretch those legs and walk around.

Walk and buy your cup of coffee. Park a bit farther from your workplace. Set aside 15 minutes from your lunch break and walk around. Take the stairs. And if you still have time, which I know you have, do brisk walking after work.

When doing household chores at home, exaggerate every move or action to stretch those muscles and keep the joints well-oiled.

Whatever age you may be, whatever your reason for exercise, continue doing it. You’re on the right track. Exercising knows no boundaries.
