“SKIP leg day” means you’ll end up with Buzz Lightyear’s upper body and Woody’s legs.

Exercise increases endorphins and may help you become as adventurous as the characters in “Toy Story.” Or the action stars in “The Equalizer 3” and “Expend4bles” which I was planning to watch. But since these two movies were shown on a rainy week, I opted to watch TV instead—“It’s Showtime,” “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso,” “Nagaapoy na Damdamin,” “Kapamilya Gold Hits,” “Minute to Win,” and “TV Patrol.”

Those were lazy afternoons, obviously. While watching “It’s Showtime,” my bro commented, “It’s taking them a long time to interview each singing contestant.” I told him they have to do that so the show could run from 12 noon to 3 pm. That shocked him: Three hours?! It’s for the commercials—the longer the show, the more it can earn from ads.

He then compared “It’s Showtime” with Conan O’Brien’s talk show which featured international showbiz celebrities, other famous people, and even US presidents. O’Brien had a script, and a strict schedule that lasted for one hour only. If he had a Pinoy noontime show producer, a single episode of his talk show could have dragged on and on for a day.

Graham Norton’s talk show is also interesting as he interviews all guests at the same time, instead of one after the other, thus, encouraging each of them to give witty replies that will catch the audience’s attention.

All noontime shows in Pinas keep on going and going from lunch till afternoon snacks, with “E.A.T.” and “Eat Bulaga” providing stiff competition to “It’s Showtime.”

If “E.A.T.” and “Eat Bulaga” sound similar, it’s because several months ago, “Eat Bulaga” gave birth to “E.A.T.” And this phenomenon could be explained in three letters: TVJ. Or three names: Tito, Vic, and Joey. The three Dabarkads who were with “Eat Bulaga” for 44 years, and are now the hosts of “E.A.T.”

“Eat Bulaga” remained with GMA, and now has new hosts. “E.A.T.” went to TV5 with TVJ and their Dabarkads. This left “It’s Showtime,” which was the noontime show at TV5, with no slot, prompting its transfer to GMA’s GTV Channel.

Yes, GMA, the ex-rival of ABS-CBN which still owns the show. This was a blessing in disguise—the two had no choice but to kiss and make up.

I’m not a noontime-show fan. At the height of the merry-go-round of these three shows, I was busy reading books as usual.

I don’t even watch Netflix.

Watching movies in cinemas is always a treat, though. Provided you have read their reviews first.

Also, find out if the movie has a post-credits scene so you don’t waste time waiting if there’s none. I always forget to do this. So, there I am, Googling as the closing credits begin to play.

Marvel and DC movies usually—or always?—have those precious scenes. Even the “Toy Story” film series have credit cookies. To pique your interest for the next movie.
