CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy has called on the City Finance Office and other relevant departments to expedite the issuance of business permits for owners who meet the minimum requirements.

This push comes as the city experiences a surge in businesses renewing their permits and newcomers obtaining them in recent weeks.

“Even if some business owners have yet to complete all their requirements, as long as they meet the minimum, we should issue the business permit,” Mayor Uy stated during the flag-raising program on Monday morning, addressing the attendees in Visayan.

However, Mayor Uy requests that business owners ensure their documents are endorsed by the Bureau of Fire Prevention to confirm that their establishments comply with safety standards.

The Business Permit Licensing Division (BPLD) reported that between January 29 and February 4, a total of 1,872 business owners renewed their permits, and 236 new entrepreneurs secured theirs.

From January 2 to February 4, the city saw 16,391 businesses renew their permits, with an additional 786 new businesses registering, bringing the combined total to 17,177.

Mayor Uy extended his appreciation to the City Finance Office and the 20th City Council for pushing back the business permit renewal and registration deadline to February 29, accommodating businesses with more time to fulfill their requirements and adhere to the necessary safety protocols.

Sheila Lumbatan, the Chief of Staff for the Mayor, highlighted that the mayor’s focus on speeding up the permit process mirrors the city’s commitment to nurturing local businesses and propelling economic growth.

“By making the permit process more efficient, we aim to cultivate a more business-friendly environment and boost entrepreneurship,” Lumbatan explained.

She noted the uptick in permit renewals and new registrations as a positive indicator for the city’s economic health, reflecting a robust and dynamic local business community.

Mayor Klarex’s proactive stance on streamlining the permit process highlights the city government’s dedication to creating an optimal setting for business ventures and their growth.

As Cagayan de Oro continues to receive a steady influx of permit applications, the mayor’s directive to speed up processing is crucial in ensuring that businesses can function smoothly, thus contributing to the city’s economic success.
