Another entrepreneur received assistance from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).   Through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), DOST released last Monday June 8, 2015, the check to Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Uy of The Nutcracker Homemade Products, a firm producing different kinds of peanut-based products. The firm sought assistance from DOST to further improve the production facility through mechanization of their cooking and packaging processes. This technology intervention will enhance the production efficiency of the plant. It is expected that with the infusion of new equipment, the increasing demand of the Nutcracker Homemade Products will be addressed as it enters into bigger and wider markets. With DOST’s support, the consumers will be assured of safer and better quality of varied peanut products that can compete globally.

The Nutcracker Homemade Products was also a recipient of the Cleaner Production Technology Program (CPT) of DOST. Through the CPT, a team of experts assessed the firm’s different processes, formulated cleaner production options which the firm had implemented. CPT options are geared towards proper utilization of resources which resulted to increased in savings for the firm, reduced the wastes and lessened the harm that it may give to the environment.

DOST-SETUP Program is a nationwide strategy encouraging and assisting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations and increase their productivity and competitiveness.

DOST Regional Office –X is located at Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City while DOST-Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) for Misamis Oriental is located at A. Luna St., Cagayan de Oro City.
