MANILA — Most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience rains on Wednesday due to southwest monsoon enhanced by typhoon “Falcon”, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In an interview, PAG ASA weather forecaster Jori Loiz said that typhoon Falcon has entered Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Tuesday evening.
He said that as of 4 a.m., the eye of typhoon “Falcon” was located at 1,330 km east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan or 1,335 km east of Calayan, Cagayan (19.3N, 134.2E) with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 20 kph.
Loiz said the typhoon Falcon is not expected to make landfall and is not direct affect of the country with this no public storm warning signals has been raise in any part of the country.
However, he noted Falcon will enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring monsoon rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides will be experienced over the provinces of Mindoro, Palawan, Bataan and Zambales while light to moderate rains is expected over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera and Western Visayas.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country. Maintaining its speed and movement, typhoon Falcon is expected to exit PAR by Thursday evening or Friday morning and will head towards Taiwan or China.
In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the entire archipelago with moderate to rough seas.
The state weather bureau also issued a gale warning as strong to gale force winds associated with the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Linfa (“Egay”) and Typhoon Falcon affecting the seaboards of Luzon will be rough to very rough.
“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it warned. PNA
