Cagayan de Oro – A total of 118 agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations (ARBOs) composed of 18,845 CARP beneficiaries and 10,217 non-CARP beneficiaries in Northern Mindanao will receive PhP 59.4 million worth of farm equipment from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
Procured under the Agrarian Reform Communities Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS), the total equipment consisted of 37 floating tillers, 27 rice threshers, 18 corn shellers, 2 units 120-horsepower tractors, 14 units 90-horsepower tractors, and one hand tractor.
The above-mentioned common service facilities were delivered in batches to the DAR–10 Regional Office at Macanhan, Carmen, this city for inspection. ARBOs’ representatives were required to attend the training on operation and maintenance conducted by the equipment suppliers. Test runs were also subsequently done to determine the functional operating condition of the delivered units. Formal turnover of said equipment will be done as soon as the Trust Agreement with the ARBOs have been made.
The ARCCESS project is DAR’s strategic intervention to provide ARBOs with capacity development training on agricultural technology and agricultural extension to modernize the industry in order to keep up with the changing pace and increasing demand in the market. The scope of the ARCCESS project is mostly determined by the needs of the ARBOs as stated in a sub-project proposal by the DAR Provincial Office and validated by a third-party state university or college conducting the sub-project’s needs and design assessments.
ARCCESS consists of five major components: provisions on common service facilities (CSFs) for production and processing, agri-technology and agri-extension services, business development, credit facilitation, and further developments in land tenure. The said project is done through conducting trainings, presentation of farm equipment, and materials on CSF and training modules.
The ARCCESS project aims to strengthen the ARBOs by building them into support hubs for the community which expects to contribute in increasing ARBO household incomes and improving the ARBO households. (Ressan Nash N. Alonto/ERS)
