CAGAYAN de Oro has emerged as the “robbery capital” of Region 10.

A Camp Alagar official said the city topped the list of areas in northern Mindanao with the highest number of robbery cases that piled up from January to July.

Supt. Francis Cariaga, police director for operations in the region, revealed this in a report submitted to the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) which is chaired, incidentally, by Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Cariaga said Bukidnon ranked second in the list of places in the region with the most number of robbery cases, and it was followed by Misamis Oriental.

Cagayan de Oro registered the highest number of robbery incidents at 2,488 from January to July, higher by 131 percent compared to Bukidnon.

City police director Senior Supt. Faro Antonio Olaguera downplayed Cariaga’s report, calling it “generic.”

Olaguera said Cariaga lumped together all forms of robbery and theft into one category.
