THE City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) is preparing to press charges against a mining company following a raid on Tuesday that resulted in the confiscation of mining equipment, firearms, and explosives in Dansolihon.

Edwin Dael, Clenro chief, said charges of illegal extraction, theft of minerals, and destruction of environment would be filed against Cekas Mining Corp.

Dael said authorities seized a backhoe, two AK-47 rifles, detonating cord with blasting cap, power generator, and water pump, among others, during the raid in Sitio Pasaw in Barangay Dansolihon, this city. Dael said the raiding team also found 80 tons of iron ore concentrate at the mining site located within a forested area.

He said mining workers fled before the raiding team could reach the place. Dael said the firearms and explosives were turned over to the Lumbia police while the backhoe and other equipment were placed under the custody of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.

He said the raid was a joint operation of the Clenro, MGB, police and military. Dael said authorities learned of the illegal activities from a tribal group that provided them with vital information. (nitz arancon)
