The City Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire razed to the ground 37 houses mostly made of light materials, leaving homeless some 57 families in Purok 8, Barangay Obrero, this city.

The fire started shortly before midnight on Saturday, and was put out at around 1:35 am on Sunday, said Obrero barangay chairman Cesar Berdera.

Berdera said authorities are looking for Randy Sulapas because there were allegations that he was drunk and that he started the fire by throwing a gas lamp at his house at the height of a spat with his wife.

“The house where the fire broke out was located right at the middle of community,” Berdera said.

Berdera however said investigators were also looking into other possibilities.
