DIGOS City–A group of armed indigenes in the mountain ranges of Kiblawan town in Davao del Sur has demanded the release of their jailed colleagues in exchange for the freedom of two women they abducted last month.
The village chairwoman of Kimlawis, Kiblawan sought the help of Davao del Sur Gov. Claude Bautista on Thursday because her sister Susette Duazo, 30, and Magdalena Dianga-Camahalan, an indigenous people’s group leader, remained as captives of a B’laan group since Jan. 23.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a capitol source said the group had planned to abduct teachers in Kimlawis but stringent security measures imposed by law enforcement groups made it difficult for them to execute their plan, and so they settled for the two women.
The group snatched Duazo first, and when Dianga-Camahalan negotiated for her release, the group seized her, too.
Officials said the group has demanded for the release of inmates referred only as “Presores” and “Kansing” who have been detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) District Jail in this city. The inmates are said to be among eight suspected bandits who surrendered to authorities last year.
