THE Supreme Court (SC) yesterday voted to allow Sen. Grace Poe to pursue her presidential bid in the May elections, a landmark decision that may or may not change the political landscape across the country.

The SC en banc voted 9-6 in favor of the reversal of the Commission on Elections’ decision to disqualify Poe from the presidential race. The Comelec earlier cancelled the senator’s certificate of candidacy over issues on residency and citizenship.

Those who voted to grant the petition are Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and Associate Justices Jose Perez, Presbitero Velasco, Lucas Bersamin, Diosdado Peralta, Jose Mendoza, Francis Jardeleza, Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, and Mariano del Castillo.

Those who voted against it are Senior Associate Justices Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, Arturo Brion, Antonio Carpio, and Associate Justices Bienvenido Reyes, Marvic Leonen, and Estela Perlas-Bernabe.
