Lao said this even as expressed alarm over the way Olaguera has been handling the city’s peace and order situation, citing the ambush of Marawi Mayor Fahad Salic in upper Carmen over the weekend.

Lao called on police director for northern Mindanao Chief Supt. Lyndel Desquitado to immediately review the performance of Olaguera.

“If Director Olaguera failed, then he needs to be replaced immediately. Sa mga panghitabo karon subo kita kaayo. Relax man kaayo atong mga police officers dinhi sa Cagayan de Oro. Walay mga police visibility,” he said.

He said if Olaguera cannot be replaced now because of an election rule, then he should be pressured to work harder, and replaced as soon as the election ban on reassignments is lifted.

Lao said he did the rounds after the Saturday ambush, and found some police outposts unmanned. Je said there was no police visibility in the streets.

He said a police outpost at the Agora junction, and two more along the Gusa highway and CM Recto Ave. were unmanned when he checked.

Lao said the reason why daylight robberies were being staged in the city is because police officers are not visible in the streets.

“We found out that dili kaayo sila sincere. Murag si Olaguera dili paminawon sa iyang mga sakop. If the observation is true, then we will demand for the immediate replacement of Olaguera,” said Lao.

Last week, Olaguera said the city police stepped up its campaign against criminals in response to the release of Camp Crame data that showed that Cagayan de Oro was among the five cities in the country with the most number of cases of index crime.

Councilor Roger Abaday faulted Mayor Oscar Moreno, saying that the problem all boilds down to his leadership.

“What’s worse is that [after each crime] no serious follow-up investigations are being made, and the results are unknown to the public,” said Abaday.
