COMING home from Dindin’s place, I was so excited to meet William again. From my window, I asked an elderly woman if he is around. I was aching to break the news to him. Soon enough, I was already with him in their living room feeling very comfortable and confident.

William “Bill” Chaves Bacal is a brother in the Craft. His mother was a teacher at Kong Hua High School. Some of his relatives are my close friends like Ingrid Chaves Agudo, Francis Rivera (an agriculturist, too) and many more.

Bill is a technical consultant at Central Azucarera de San Antonio and Central Azucarera de Bais in Bais, Negros Oriental. His wife is connected with Neda, and assigned in Iloilo City.

We talked about rice terracing, SALT and different ways of gardening. Sensing my keen interest on this topic, he invited me to join his group called “Urgent” (Urban Gardening Enterprise).

Urgent is best for those who love gardening and food. It’s very informative with lots to learn about. Familiar names I saw are Tatoy Neri, Indrid Agudo, Tony Zoilo Velez, Lito Muñoz and not too familiar but surely Cagayanons like Rafa P. Santos, Mercedes Pelaez Mejia, Rico Ortis Ibonia and Faye Enteria, etc.

Bill reminds me of Dr. Michael Bengwayan, an agriculturist and an advocate for environmental protection; Bob Ocio who is a big fan of Geoff Lawton, an expert on permaculture; and the newly appointed Secretary on Agriculture Manny Piñol. They are the people that this new government needs and taps.

Bill hopes to get an audience with Sec. Piñol. I hope Environment Secretary Gina Lopez gets to meet Dr. Bengwayan. Ocio will certainly promote permaculture when he gets back. The future of food security is rosy.

Thank you, Bro. Bill for the plants you gifted me. Thank you for the mangoes. I am blessed with good neighbors like you and Rudy Uy.

Let me share with you some quotable quotes.

“The trees planted on city sidewalks should be replaced with fruit trees, so the homeless have something to eat in the summer and fall.”

“My father used to say that once in your life you need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman and a preacher. But every day, three times a day, you need a farmer.”

The message is very clear, noh!

Mr. Sunshine never saw it coming, that a louse (kuto) like Guialani can cause so much trouble for him. Mr. Sunshine accused him of allowing himself to be used by political rivals.

Last week, Guialani was arrested for violation of RA 7610 or the law against child abuse. Is this the same case reported a few months ago?

Like Mr. Sunshine, Guialani never saw it coming. When two people become mortal enemies, expect the unexpected. That’s politics at its worst.
