BUTUAN City — Four fishermen were caught in the act of using explosives off the coastal waters Barangay Dako Island, General Luna, Surigao del Norte by patrolling policemen last Friday.

Official report from General Luna Municipal Police Station in Siargao Island, Province of Surigao del Norte identified the four arrested fishermen as brothers Elly Samano Murial and Eliser Samano Murial, Peser Tosay Ruaya and Rex Riaya Samano, all are relatives and residents of Barangay Union, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

Police said their operatives were conducting seaborne patrol at the coastal waters of Barangay Dako Island where alleged rampant dynamite fishing have been observed recently. The cops spotted the four on board a fishing boat using dynamite to catch fish.

Police confiscated from the suspects assorted fish species, three rolls of hose, three improvised flippers, pouch net, air compressor, traces of dynamite powders, and the pump boat the four used.

Fish examiner at the General Luna Municipal Agriculture Office Raul Madroñal who took samples from the fish gathered by the suspects found out that all said fishes at the pump boats had traces of dynamite powder.

The seized items and suspects are now in the custody of the General Luna Municipal Police Office.
