Iligan City — The hearing on the case against Mayor Celso Regencia pushed through on Wednesday even without one of his lawyers and the mayor.

Norberto Altres, spokesperson of then Congressman Vicente Belmonte, Jr. on Friday said that Judge Ferdinand Baylon of Branch 77 of the Regional Trial Court at Quezon City denied the Motion to Postpone Hearing filed by the mayor’s camp as its lawyer, Atty. Leo Zaragoza could not attend the because he was not feeling well.

Zaragoza was scheduled to do the cross examination of a witness, Noel Don one of Belmonte’s bodyguard who was hit in the ambush but survived.

The lawyers based in Manila, Gana & Atienza did the cross examination on the witness instead, Altres said.

Regencia, to note is being detained  in the city jail at Tipanoy, this city for murder and frustrated murder charges in connection with the ambush of the convoy of Belmonte, on Dec. 11, 2014 near the Laguindingan airport.

As in previous hearing schedules supporters of the detained mayor barricaded the entrance of the jail to prevent his extraction and transfer to a jail facility in Taguig, Quezon City.

The hearing was regarding the mayor’s camp on its Motion for Bail.
