COUNCILOR Leon Gan yesterday accused the city council majority of approving many illegal ordinances, including the one that declared the city under a state of calamity because of the Jan. 16 floods.

The state of calamity ordinance, he said, contradicted a national law.

Gan said there were other questionable ordinances that were approved because some important city council committees allegedly did not function properly.

He mentioned the committees on finance,  engineering, environment, peace and  order, trade, and market, among others.

Gan said he and other members of the city council minority would support any councilor who would move to declare the committee chairmanships vacant in an effort to reorganize the committees. (nitz arancon)
