This after Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Martin Delgra promised they will not approve the Department Order which seeks to phase out 15 years and older public utility jeepneys.

Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) and National Confederation of Transport Union (NCTU) and other transportation groups met on June 2 and agreed not to push through with the planned transportation strike.

Joel Gabatan, NCTU president for northern Mindanao said the five big transportation groups met last Friday to decide if they will push through with the strike which would have stranded thousands of students today.

Nakita pud tingali nila ni Sec. Tugade ug Chairman Delgra nga mahurot ang tanang (jeepney) kon ilang i-phase out kay ang makita sa tanang PUJ sa Pilipinas pulos man  surplus. Wala ma’y brand new,” Gabatan said.

Gabatan said the decision not to push through was a token of good faith to the promises of Tugade and Delgra not to approve the PUJ phase out order.
