Nicandro Borja, ALU-TUCP regional vice president, described the wage increase as “loose change” as far as the region’s workers are concerned.

On Thursday, RTWBP-10 issued Wage Order 19 that approved a P20-salary increase for employees of private companies in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental towns of Tagoloan, Villanueva, and Jasaan.

The latest salary increase order is broken down as follows: P15 increase in the basic pay and P5 increase in the cost of living allowance, daily. The new wage order covers workers under Salary Category 1.

According to the ALU-TUCP regional vice president, the Wage Order 19, which is supposed to take effect on July 16, would make the minimum salary of workers under Salary Category 1 from P318 per day to P338 only.

Ang Category 1, Cagayan de Oro ra, Tagoloan,  Villanueva ug Jasa-an,” Borja said.
