POLICE caught a college student with a caliber .38 revolver at a checkpoint in Baloy, Tablon yesterday.

Senior Insp. Leo Hurano said the student identified as Gelan Carlo Basillo, 20, of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, was riding a jeepney that was flagged down for inspection by officers who were manning a checkpoint.

Hurano said the revolver had no serial number.

The revolver was kept inside the suspect’s backpack together with four bullets, said Hurano.

Police said Basillo claimed to be working as a part-time guard but he failed to present a work ID.

“Naa siyay ID sa eskuwelahan pero maglisod mi og tuo nga security guard siya,” Hurano said.

The suspect was detained at the police station in Cugman, pending the filing of charges for illegal gun possession.

Meanwhile, authorities arrested a man, ranked No. 1 in the drugs watchlist of the Barangay Drug Abuse Council, during an operation in Iponan on Saturday night.

The suspect, 34-year old Cyrell Abella of Zone 4, Barangay Iponan, yielded suspected shabu weighing 20.2 grams, valued at P121 thousand, a P1-thousand bill used as marked money, and a cellphone, said Carmen police head Chief Insp. Ritchie Salva. (a.l. ricalde)
