AUTHORITIES arrested two suspected members of the New Preople’s Army, one an alleged bomb maker, during a joint operation in Purok 8, Barangay Kiburiao, Quezon town, Bukidnon, yesterday morning.

Capt. Joe Patrick Martine, Camp Evangelista spokesman, identified the suspected rebels as Ruel Calolot, an alleged expert bomb maker, and his brother Ramil.

Martinez said Ruel Calolot had an Anak Pawis partylist ID with him when he was caught by authorities.

According Martinez, the joint military and police forces responded to a 6 am report from a civilian who told them that there were NPA members who were planning to explode a bomb in the area.

Martinez said the government troops subsequently chanced on a group of rebels in the area and soon, the forces sporadically exchanged firepower  for about five minutes.

He said the rebels fled leaving behind bomb-making materials and belongings that were allegedly in the possession of the brothers who were cornered by government troops.

Found at the site were 55 RR explosive devices, 19 improvised explovise devices, a gun, and wirings, switches, boxes, laptops, ammunition, and documents.

Martinez said the two brothers were brought to a police station in Quezon Bukidnon for investigation.
