A LOW pressure area spotted off Surigao City has developed into a tropical depression and is now being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services.

Pagasa said “Urduja” was estimated to be 450 kilometers east of Surigao yesterday morning before it  intensified and turned into a tropical depression.

It brought scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms in some areas of the country yesterday.

Rains from Urduja and a cold front may trigger floods in Mindanao, Mimaropa and the rest of the Visayas.

Pagasa said the tail end of a cold front is affecting the eastern section of southern Luzon while the northeast monsoon prevails in northern and central Luzon. (pna)
