ILIGAN City — Created on July 25, 1993, six barangays here have not been receiving any Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) ever since, it was learned as the barangays held their 25th anniversary celebration early this week.

Former Kagawad Arnold Malonhao of Luinab, in his recollections, said their barangay along with five others have no IRA because these were created after the enactment of the Local Government Code.

He said barangays are operating only though assistance from the city government that began with only P270 thousand in 1993 that has now increased to P2 million per year.

He added that the other barangays with no IRA are Acmac, San Roque, Upper Hinaplanon, Ubaldo Laya, and Ditucalan.

Another former Kagawad of Luinab who requested anonymity said they hoped that the Association of Barangay Councils could help ask the national government to allot Internal Revenue to the barangays but nothing has happened all these years.
