Tattoo artists and those engaged in body piercings would also be required to secure a permit from city hall, based on Gaane’s proposal.

A city council dispatch yesterday showed that Gaane has asked the City Legal Office and City Health Office to comment and submit their recommendations on her proposed tattoo regulations ordinance. The councilor is the chairperson of the city council’s committee on health and sanitation and health insurance.

Gaane’s committee has started discussions on the proposed ordinance aimed at providing standards in the operation of tattoo studios with corresponding penalties.

Lawyer Kirsten Kate Calvo of the City Legal Office said the draft of the proposed ordinance on tattoo regulation is still being reviewed by city hall’s lawyers.

City health officer Fe Bongcas said there there is a national law and implementing rules and regulations on the operations of tattoo studios. (cli)
