In the statement by the Police Regional Office in Caraga over the weekend, it said the decision to replace the police chiefs was based on the recommendation of an oversight committee on illegal drugs.

Senior Supt. Jimili Macaraeg, deputy regional director for operations who heads the oversight committee, said the order applies to the police chiefs of Santiago, Las Nieves, Kitcharao and Magallanes in Agusan del Norte;

Taganaan, Bacuag and San Francisco in Surigao del Norte;

Cantilan, Marihatag, Cagwait and Madrid in Surigao del Sur; and the five police chiefs of Dinagat Island, including the provincial police director.

Chief Supt. Noli Romana, police director for Caraga, approved and signed  the recommendation that stated that the 16 municipal chiefs of police either had “no or low accomplishment” in the anti-illegal drug campaign.

“They failed to meet the requirements on the number of accomplishments pertaining to the campaign against illegal drugs,” said Romana.

The Caraga police warned other municipal police stations and their chiefs, saying they could eighter shape up or ship out.

“All chiefs of police in our region are reminded to maximize their efforts on anti-criminality operations, especially on illegal drugs, or they will face the same fate if they fail to meet the requirements set by the oversight committee,” Romana said.
