Iligan City — Pwersang Bayaning Pilipino (PBA) Partylist Rep. Jericho Nograles is pushing for legislative and institutional reforms to improve the quality of sports in the country.

This was disclosed by Manuel Golez III, Public Policy and Public Administrator and Fact Finding Officer of the party list to media this week during the consultations in which representatives from the 44 barangays in the city attended.

Golez stressed that PBA Partylist continud its consultations with the local government here especially barangay constituents. This is for a possible assistance to the barangay sports development, including construction of gyms in different areas in the country. He added Nograles continually coordinates with the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympics Commission in order to help and assist sports program in the country. “In fact, a proposed bill is now in the house to re-establish and revive the Department of Sports to focus and develop the sports program of the country at the grassroots level,” he added.

He said the country is a basketball-loving country as Filipinos are basketball enthusiasts, even as PBA too, is aiming to promote football sports in the country, especially in Mindanao, he added. And also, he added too, the island of Mindanao has talented boxing enthusiasts. PBA then wants to develop and have access and be able to showcase their talents, thus developing these athletes for global competitiveness.

“We are in Iligan City to strengthen and sustain our support to sports development,” Golez said. “Not everyone knows that PBA authored and passed major House  bills and resolutions in Congress,” he added.

Golez pointed out even as he emphasized that the PBA Partylist, within a span of two years had been supporting around 10,000 patients with different medical problems in all general hospitals in Manila, Zamboanga, Davao, and other areas in the country.

“When it comes to livelihood, PBA is continually coordinating with and cooperating with the Department of Labor and Employment and the Technical Education and Skills Authority to have vocational training in all the livelihood programs to empower residents in the community,” he said.
