City Mayor Oscar Moreno has expressed dismay over the move of some members of the city council belonging to the majority bloc for blocking his priority program of implementing socialized housing in the city.
Moreno aired his disappointment during his message at the oath-taking ceremony and was aired over a local radio station on Monday that his party mates started deferring his proposals to set aside more funds for city hall’s land-banking program and probably would answer the housing backlog.
“Kaabag magtina-bangay tungod kay duna ko’y measures nga gipapa-sar sa city council pero natingla ko nga dunay mga kauban nga mibabag man sa mga kauban lang gihapon,” he said.
The mayor did not name names but Councilors Reuben Daba and Romeo Calizo asked for the deferment and called for a review of city hall’s land purchases and shelter program.
“Not realizing that it is our main agenda. Not realizing that was our commitment to the people for our resiliency program. We will have more lots to address our informal settlers. Anugon lang, failure of communication,” Moreno pointed out.
He said it is very unfortunate because that was the last day of the 18th City Council’s session and waits for the resumption of the session that belongs to 19th City Council.
“Maghulat na usab kita og laing mga bulan. Kapoliki na gani kita og pangita sa mga partners and yet gibabagan. I am disappointed klaro man unta kayo ang mandato nga magtinabangay apan gibabagan,” he added.
Moreno asked members of the city council that if they have doubts over his proposal, they personally asked him because he is the one answerable for every move that he makes as a local chief executive.
During the deferment at City Council’s Monday’s regular session, Daba claimed that the city hall has already bought some 150 hectares for its land-banking program and yet it has a housing backlog of some 50 thousand homeless people.
He is referring to a proposed ordinance allowing the local chief executive to set-aside funds amounting to P11.331 million that could buy a 60-hectare property in Barangay San Simon.
