CITY police director Col. Henry Dampal yesterday ordered the arrest of over a thousand fugitives believed to be in the city.
Dampal gave the order even as he changed the way the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) has been serving arrest warrants issued by the courts.
Before, according to Dampal, only a few officers were tasked to serve the arrest warrants, resulting in backlogs. This time, he said, all police officers under Cocpo would help in serving the arrest warrants in close coordination with barangay officials.
Dampal’s order is for all officers under Cocpo to begin combing the city and arresting people with arrest warrants regardless of the gravity of the crimes blamed on them.
He also ordered Cocpo to prepare a list of fugitives and serve the arrest warrants as soon as possible.
Dampal said the list would be accessible to all Cocpo officers and not just a few. He said before he assumed as the city’s police director, only the warrant servers knew who have unserved warrants of arrest.
“This time, all should know who are wanted,” he said.
Dampal also directed officers in various police precincts to closely coordinate with barangay officials in an effort to catch fugitives.
He said Cocpo would soon distribute copies of public notices that would show the names and photographs of wanted people so that concerned citizens can help in providing Cocpo with useful information.
“Makita og kinahanglan masayod ang mga tawo ilabi na gyud kung naa sila’y kadudahan,” he said.
Dampal said he is optimistic that the new Cocpo approach would be an effective way to fight criminality in the city.
He also said police units and officers who would perform well in this new approach would be rewarded.
