MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano urged the provincial police to strictly enforce the gun ban in the province as the election period for the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections started on Saturday.
Emano also called on those who filed their certificates of candidacy to follow the election gun ban and other rules set by the Commission on Elections, and not to engage in money politics.
Misamis Oriental police director Senior Supt. Rolando Destura said the gun ban officially took effect past midnight Saturday, and police checkpoints were immediately set up across the province. He said this would last until May 21.
