THE 17-year-old Bukidnon student who was reported to have escaped from his captors in Divisoria here last week fabricated his story, police said yesterday.

There was no abduction in Maramag town, Bukidnon, contrary to what Kyle Brent Asedilla told the police here following his supposed escape, according to Maj. Gil Agpaoa, Maramag police chief.

Agpaoa said investigators found out that the student from Barangay Kaluminan, Kitaotao town in Bukidnon, voluntarily went with a group to this city based on statements given by witnesses.

Asedilla, a 12th-grade student at the Bukidnon Community College, earlier claimed to have been snatched by a group of men and forced into a van near his school at around 2 pm Nov. 14. He claimed he was then brought to Cagayan de Oro, and escaped when his supposed kidnappers were about to transfer him to another vehicle.

The student’s accounts turned out to be “lies,” Agpaoa said.

Agpaoa said investigators found out that Asedilla had planned to run away from home and his school, and be with his friends here as early as Nov. 13 because of his failing grades.
