COUNCILOR Romeo Calizo on Monday slammed the what he called as the poor performance of the Roads and Traffic Administration over the worsening traffic problem in the city.

Calizo said this following the special report of Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. during their regular session. He recommended the immediate reactivation of the Traffic Management and Enforcement Board to be led by Mayor Oscar Moreno.

“Bagsak ang performance sa RTA kay wala gyud ma-solusyonan ang problema sa traffic dinhi sa siyudad,” he said.

He said the RTA should really implement traffic laws and not allow busy roads to be turned into parking areas.

“Basically, the law says if it is a road, then it should be used as a road and not as a parking area. Walay long-term solution nga ilang gipakita,” he said.

Calizo cited busy streets like Tiano Brothers, Corrales, Osmena and Velez.

“They are just imposing a band-aid solution,” he said.

Calizo has been designated by Mayor Moreno as chairman of the TMEB, but he said that RTA has not submitted an immediate solution to the worsening traffic condition in the city.

He said he is waiting for the city council’s committee on public utilities chaired by Lao to complete a series of meetings on the traffic condition. (Nitz Arancon and Lito Rulona)
