THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) is already prepared to carry out tight security measures in the city as it hosts the PiliPinas Debate 2016 tomorrow, city police director Faro Antonio Olaguera said yesterday.

Senior Supt. Olaguera said the police would deploy at least seven platoons to secure areas in and outside the Capitol University (CU) where all the presidential candidates would be facing each other for the first of three presidential debates.

“They will guard the entrance and exits of the debate venue,” he said.

Aside from the seven platoons, the city police would also field its special units: Swat, a bomb squad, and a team with highly trained bomb sniffing dogs.

“We will secure all nooks and crannies of the university to avert any untoward incident, and prevent any sabotage that could mar the debate,” said Olaguera.

He appealed to people who would be attending the debate not to wear hats or caps, sunglasses, and most especially dangerous weapons.

Olaguera also asked for the public’s patience since bags and boxes would be checked by officers.

He said the troop deployment would start tonight.

He also said there would be many officers in plain clothes in the area.

Mayor Oscar Moreno yesterday convened the Regional Peace and Order Council to discuss security measures for the presidential debate.
