Authorities identified the alleged suicide as Marc Leo Bantilan, 35, of Galaxy St., Terry Hills Subdivision in Bulua.

Bantilan alleged took a caliber .45 pistol from his father’s room and used it on himself. His father is a retired soldier.

Oliver Inodeo, DSWD spokesperson for Region 10, said Bantilan was given the task of municipal roving bookkeeper for the DSWD’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program, and had been assigned to Subongcogon and Balingasag in Misamis Oriental.

Inodeo said Bantilan was new to the DSWD — he was hired only in November 2017 — after his stint with the Bureau of the Internal Revenue.

The alleged suicide came as a shock to him and other DSWD workers, according to Inodeo. He remembered Bantilan: “Hilumon ni siya ug mo-smile lang ug hanggaton ug kaon, moingon lang ug sige.”

Inodeo said the DSWD was deeply saddened over Bantilan’s death, and they would be sending aid to his family.
