DID you know that even early on, during biblical times, the spreading of “fake news” was already strictly prohibited? This is what the Bible, in its Exodus 23:1, is saying. The Bible, as the Word of God, makes it a stern command for people not to be purveying untruthful news or information.

Here is what the Bible exactly says on this: “…`Do not spread false reports’…” This command against “false reports” in the Word of God (or “fake news” during the present time) appears to have the same level as the Ten Commandments handed down by God to Moses in Mt. Sinai, to be followed all the time by His people, the Israelites.

The prohibition in the Bible against “fake news” is in fact complementary to the ninth command in the Ten Commandments, which prohibits false testimony or false declaration against anyone. What God obviously wants to happen with these commands is to make people value and honor truth. Especially the simple truth that God wants all people to tell others: that He is God and Savior, who is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, whose Name is Jesus.

Maybe we are wondering among ourselves: so what if what we are purveying or telling others is not the truth? Can something bad happen to us if we are spreading fake news? The Bible’s answer is clear: yes, something real bad will happen to us. And the real bad news here is that, this “something bad that will happen” is not just bad.

What will come against the people who purvey fake news are God’s curses, which will certainly afflict them with poverty, destruction, and even death. This has been the warning given by the Bible in its many verses. According to the Bible, if we will not listen to, nor obey, the commands of God which are written in its pages, we will surely be afflicted with His grave curses.

This is what Deuteronomy 28:15-68 of the Old Testament is saying. And, even the New Testament, in its Matthew 7:26-27 where Jesus, our God and Savior who is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the one speaking, the same warnings could be found. It would be good for us then to listen to the Word of God (meaning that, people must read His Bible), and obey everything written therein.

To those who continue to entertain doubts  whether reading the Bible and obeying God’s commands can give beneficial results, we must always remember that the power of God for the salvation of all who believe can be found only in His Word, His Bible.

If we read the Word of God, the Bible, it is not only the Bible which is with us. What truly gets into us is God Himself, because the Word is God. And if God is with us, or in us, if we are reading His Word, the Bible, there is no one that can be against us, as we are empowered to do all the miraculous works He had done, and even more.

The truth is that, the Word of God, the Bible, is ever reliable. We can trust God’s Word, especially His promises therein which say that His plans for us are not for harming us but for prospering us, plans that will give us hope and a bright future. We can rely that He will fulfill His promises in the Bible because He is not human that He would like. Whatever He said, He will do it. Thank God in the Name of Jesus, Amen!
