COUNCILOR Edna Dahino, chair of the city council’s committee on women and family relations, sounded alarm bells over reports that a 10-year old girl was impregnated here based on information she gathered during a recent forum in Barangay Consolacion.

Before her committee on Friday, Dahino said it was a cause of worry to her because it breaks the survey in 2013 that one of 10 young Filipinos, ages 15 to 19, have begun childbearing.

“There is something wrong with our family values. Wala gyud kaayo malawmi pagsabot sa atong mga ginikanan to nurture their children in the right manner. This a wake-up call to our parents right now,” she said.

Dahino said the information about the pregnant girl highlights the need for her proposed ordinance that seeks to strictly regulate the travel of unaccompanied minors.

“Wala ta mag-ingon nga naape kining 10-year old girl but the protection of children kinahanglan na gyud nga pakusgan sa tanang local government units,” she said.
