SOLDIERS killed three suspected members of the New People’s Army and wounded at least five others during an encounter in Sumilao town in Bukidnon over the weekend, the military confirmed yesterday.

Army Capt. Norman Tagros,  civil-military  officer of the 403rd Brigade,  said the encounter was between the 1st Special Forces Battalion and the NPA’s Guerrilla  Front 68 in Barangay Licoan, Sumilao town at around  2:30 pm Saturday.

Tagros said the soldiers and the rebels sporadically exchanged fire power for about an hour, more or less.

The military failed to clearly identify the slain rebel suspects but Tagros gave the aliases “Aryong,” “Janie,” and “Jemboy.”

Tagros said the dead rebel suspects and those who were believed to be wounded were among the over 20 guerrillas chanced upon by government troops in the village of Licoan.

He said the soldiers from 403rd Brigade went to the village for patrol operations because the military received complaints from villagers and business establishments about alleged NPA “harassments.” (nitz arancon)
