ILIGAN City–A judge has cited a legal counsel of Iligan Rep. Vicente Belomonte Jr. for contempt of court, and ordered him arrested, a lawyer sympathetic to detained Mayor Celso Regencia claimed yesterday.

Lawyer Vermin Quimco of the group “Call for Justice” said Judge Arthur Abundiente of the Regional Trial Court Branch 4 has issued a warrant against Belmonte’s lawyer Rejoice Subejano  for defying a gag order, and for allegedly resorting to name calling against the judge.

Abundiente earlier ordered Regencia’s, Belmonte’s, and Vice Mayor Ruderic Marzo’s groups, and councilors to refrain from discussing the injunction issued in favor of Regencia’s exercise of mayoral duties despite his detention.

But, Quimco said, Subejano continued to criticize and ridicule the judge on local radio.

Quimco said the warrant carried with it an imprisonment of 10 days.
