Medina, Misamis Oriental — The owner of the truck that killed five persons along the highway in this town on July 6 has settled by paying each of the victims’ families P100 thousand each, authorities said.

Traffic Investigator PO3 Arvie Cainoy identified Lucille Pacaña Unabia of Xavier Estate, Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City as the registered owner of the reefer truck with plate no. AFA 7597.

On July 6, Mark dela Cruz, driver of the truck, plowed a passenger multi-cab at Barangay Tup-on that killed the driver, four passengers, and seriously injured another passenger, Cainoy said.

Unabia also paid P180 thousand for the multicab her truck destroyed which was totally damaged as confirmed by the multicab owner Melodia Ordinal, a resident of Mandahilag, Talisayan town. Ordinal said Unabia paid them Friday last week.

The families of the multicab driver, Jerry S. Adrian, 36, married, and families of passengers of multicab: John B. Bou, 17, Talisayan; Antonia Tahod, 53, and her daughter Mae Ann, 21; and Milagros Nalasa, 48, married, all of whom are residents of Barangay Tup-on recieved P100 thousand each.

Unabia also paid for the hospital bills and gave P100 thousand to the lone survivor Jessamae Galuchino, 17, resident of Pahindong, also of this town.

Cainoy said the relatives of the victims has withdrawn their cases against the driver and the owner by executing affidavits of desistance.
