JIM Jamaca, the lone survivor and witness in the grisly Jamaca-Yabut murders on Dec. 11, 2014, was prepared to point his accusing finger at Senior Insp. Ludwig Charles Espera and Insp. Arnel Gighe but the two police officials were a no-show in court yesterday.

Secured by heavily armed agents of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, a bullet proof vest-clad Jamaca went to city hall yesterday afternoon with the intent to identify Espera and Gighe as two of the men who were allegedly behind the shooting deaths of siblings Harold and Roland Jamaca in Barangay Mambuaya, and Erica Yabut in Barangay FS Catanico here in December.

Judge Vincent Rosales of the 23rd branch of the Regional Trial Court here started hearing the petition for bail of Espera and Gighe who have been under detention at the Lumbia jail since their surrender early this year. The two have been charged with multiple murder and frustrated murder along with PO1 Junriel Barrientos, PO2 Manuel Quipanes, and several John Does.

Prosecutor Acmad Balindong said he had planned to block the petition for bail of Espera and Gighe by making Jamaca identify and point to the two police officials but Judge Rosales had ruled that the suspects may not show themselves in court during the hearing.

Balindong said the defense lawyer, Noel Vedad, argued that it was a case of mistaken identity and so, it would be unwise to present them in court during the hearings on the petition for bail.

Rosales have yet to rule on the police officials’ petition, and Balindong said he would present in court another witness against the suspects this coming July 30 in an effort to stop the suspects from being released from the Lumbia prison. (nitz arancon)
